Once again students are helping others out. The senior English classes hosted a walk-a-thon last Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event was a success and the students raised money for the scholarship honoring Jon Amundson and the Sandra Dealey family.
The varsity softball team traveled to Loudonville to play in the Champions Challenge Tournament this past weekend as well. The girls finished very well in the tournament with taking the win against Colonel Crawford 11-5 on Friday night. They fell to Loudonville 3-2 and Akron Springfield 13-9 on Saturday. Senior Brittany Helt said, “The tournament was very fun hanging out with the girls at the hotel, but I do wish we could have won against Loudonville and Springfield. We did get fourth overall though so that still is great!” The girls have a game at home with Ada tonight at 5 p.m.
The baseball team has kept up their winning record as they won with Continental on Friday with a 7-0 win and another win on Saturday against Spencerville with a score of 4-1. The varsity boys also host Ada tonight with at 5 p.m.
The last time the Crestview Band qualified for state competition was 2005, but they did not attend. The last year the band competed at state was 1981. This year the band qualified at districts and last weekend the Crestview High School Band traveled to Findlay to compete at state finals. At districts they finished with the highest overall rating that a band can receive qualifying them for state. Band Director Joshua Thomas said, “The standards for state are so high that I didn’t expect to do that well. I was shocked, excited and very proud of our members.” They received a two rating at state, which is the second highest a band can score.
The varsity track team competed at the New Haven Relays last Friday night finishing sixth place. Malcolm Oliver finished third place in the long jump, Josh Ream finished fourth place in the shot put, and the 4x100m relay of Kline, Zaleski, Jellison, and Oliver received fourth place. Josh Ream said, “It felt pretty good getting fourth place but it got aggravating because I tied my PR twice. The farthest I have thrown in shot put so far is 42 ft. and 6.5 in. Track this year is very fun. We get to goof around and have fun, but we still get work done and can be serious.”
