Billie V. Merriss

Billie V. Merriss, 80, of Van Wert, died at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

She was born February 1, 1933, in Middlesboro, Ky., the daughter of the late Harvey and Shirley (Robinson) Simpson. She married Dale Merriss, who survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Cheryl (Donald) Creevy of Huntertown, Ind.; two brothers, Charles Simpson of Van Wert and Harvey (Georgia) Simpson of Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif.; one sister, Jacqueline DeBolt of Van Wert; one grandson; and a nephew.

One brother, James Simpson; and two sisters, Pauline Lynch and Nadine Woodburn, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Steve Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center or the American Cancer Society.
