Gale R. Compton

Gale R. Compton, 86, of Van Wert, died at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born October 7, 1926, in Haviland, the son of the late Roscoe and Ethel Irene (Reid) Compton. On April 14, 1945, he married Vernabel Louise (Murphy) Compton, who preceded him in death on February 4, 2008.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Sherer of Van Wert; two sons, Randall (Patricia) Compton and Ronald (Eve) Compton, both of St. Marys; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Dale R. Compton; and one sister, Phyllis Compton, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Revs. Gus Christo-Baker and Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County, with graveside honors performed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
