The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol gained a new sergeant this week. On Tuesday, Trooper Larry R. Barrett was promoted to the rank of sergeant by Colonel John Born, OSHP superintendent, during a ceremony at the Patrol’s Academy.

Barrett has moved from being a part of the Criminal Patrol Unit in the Piqua District to his new position as assistant post commander at the Van Wert Post.
Sgt. Barrett began his career with the OSHP in January 1993 as a member of the 124th Academy class. He earned his commission in June of that year and was assigned to the Wapakoneta Post. In 1994, he transferred to the Fremont Post. Sgt. Barrett returned to the Wapakoneta Post and earned a Certificate of Recognition in 1996, the Ace Award for excellence in auto larceny enforcement in 1997 and was selected as Post “Trooper of the Year” in 1999. In 2001, he transferred to his most recent assignment at the Piqua District’s Criminal Patrol Unit.
