Lancers beat S’ville in sectional action

CONVOY — The Lincolnview baseball team eked out a 5-4 victory at the Division IV baseball sectional tournament held at Crestview High School on Saturday.
The Lancers were led offensively by Kyle Williams, who had two singles and drove in two RBI in the game. Matt Oechsle had one singled and one RBI, while Nick Leeth hit a double and Tyler Richey also had one RBI.
The winning pitcher was Jalen Roberts, who gave up no runs, but allowed two hits, walked two and struck out three batters in two-thirds of an inning.
Lincolnview scored first with two runs in the third inning and then pushed the score to 4-0 with two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Bearcats came back, though, to tie the game at 4 apiece in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Lancers were able to put the winning run across the plate in the top of the sixth, while the Lincolnview defense held Spencerville in the bottom of the inning and through the seventh as well.
Lincolnview had six hits in the game, while the Bearcats had eight hits, but also had two errors.
Tanner Koverman of Spencerville was the losing pitcher. He allowed two runs on two hits, while walking four and striking out four in 2 1/3 innings of work.
In the other Division IV sectional game at Crestview, Fort Jennings defeated Antwerp 4-2. Kurt Warneke was the winning pitcher for the Musketeers, while Derek Smalley took the loss for the Archers.
Justice Clark had two singles and two RBI for Jennings, while Alex Vetter and Alex Sealts both had one RBI in the game.
