Local Elks name ‘Student of the Year’

Van Wert Lodge 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, held its Youth Recognition Breakfast on Tuesday, May 7, in conjunction with the Elks’ National Youth Week.

Approximately 85 people attended, including students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors and principals.

During the breakfast, Lodge Scholarship Chairman Keith Rydell recognized the local scholarship winner.  Also recognized by Lodge Americanism Chair Linda Stanley were the local winners in the Grand Lodge Americanism Essay Contest.

The Student of the Month winners were each recognized and the lodge also named a Student of the Year winner for the 2012-2013 school year. Selected as Student of The Year was Adam Schumm, a senior at Crestview High School. The Student of the Year winner received a certificate and $100 and is eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship through the Ohio Elks Association, vying for the Student Volunteer of the Year award. Stanley is also the Student of the Month chair.
