Minster edges Lancer softball team

Lincolnview softball news

MINSTER — The Lincolnview softball team came out on the wrong side of a 3-1 score, while the Lady Lancer junior varsity team lost 18-7 in non-conference games against the Minster Lady Wildcats on Saturday.

In the varsity game, the Lancers’ lone run came following a triple to center off the bat of freshman Autumn Proctor. Lincolnview senior Kaitlyn Brant then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score Proctor and give the Lancers a 1-0 lead that held up for three innings, thanks to the efforts of pitcher Ashley McClure and the Lincolnview defense.

That ended in the bottom of the third when the Wildcats tied it up on a wild pitch and Minster scored two more runs in the fourth on two uncharacteristic Lincolnview fielding errors. All three runs were unearned.

When McClure had to be taken out of the game following the fourth for tightness in her back, senior Courtney Gorman took over and pitched two innings in relief, shutting down the potent Wildcat offense the rest of the way.

Minster hurler Kayla Richards limited the Lancer offense to just one earned run on three hits. Richards is now 18-4 on the year, while McClure, who took the loss for Lincolnview, drops to 16-4, while the Lancers as a team are 17-4 in varsity contests on the season.

Lincolnview will next play Wednesday, starting at 5 p.m. against the Continental Lady Pirates in a Division IV district tournament contest at Elida.
