Elks list Americanism Contest winners

Van Wert Lodge 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, has announced the winners of the 2012-2013 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Americanism Essay Contest. This fraternal year, the theme for the contest was, “What does the National Anthem Mean to Me?” Students competed in divisions, by age group. The local winners, which were forwarded to the district for further judging, were:

Division I, grades 5-6

  • First place, Griffin Painter – Crestview School
  • Second place – Laney Jones – Crestview School
  • Third place – Chase Forwerck – Crestview School

Division II, grades 7-8

  • First Place – Tracey West – Lincolnview Junior High
  • Second Place – Bryon Walsh – Van Wert Middle School
  • Third Place – Taylor Doenges – Lincolnview Junior High

Unfortunately, none of the students placed in the Northwest District competition.

Van Wert Elks Lodge 1197 would like to congratulate all of its winners and lodge members want to thank all of the students, teachers and schools for their participation in this year’s essay contest.

Linda Stanley was the lodge chairman in charge of the Lodge Americanism Committee.
