Children’s Garden summer camps set
Information submitted
It’s time to gear up for the 2013 Smiley Park Children’s Garden programs being held throughout the summer. The cost for each camp will be $5, or a total of $30 for those who sign up for all seven camps.
The first camp will be Thursday, June 13, and will cover the basics of planting one’s very own garden. The following camp will be held June 20 and will be a lesson on the birds of summer: the hummingbirds. The third camp, which won’t be held until July 2, focuses on animal fossils.
The fourth camp will be July 11 and will cover the importance of the food chain and the importance of little creatures, while the fifth session, on July 25, is directed by Ohio State Extension Agent Curtis Young, who will discuss the importance of insects and how they impact area residents’ everyday lives.
“Bat Savvy” will be held August 1 and will be directed by Van Wert County Game Warden Brad Beining, who will discuss the importance of bats.
A two-hour session will be held August 15 to wrap up the summer learning and will be a review of everything from the previous six camps.
All sessions will be held at 10 a.m. and will last 1½-2 hours. Children will get a snack and water for the sessions and will be able to take home a project they completed from that day’s session.
