Summer youth jobs program planned

VW County JFS Dept. news

Van Wert County Department of Job and Family Services announces the TANF Summer Youth Employment Program.

This program pays $7.85 per hour, 20-25 hours per week, for Van Wert County youth age 14-24 to gain work experience at local businesses.  In-School students can work until school starts, and out-of school youth can work no later than August 31.

Businesses are needed to mentor students in general and specific work skills to increase the caliber of our upcoming workforce.  Payroll and worker’s compensation are provided through the program at no cost to participating businesses.

To be considered the youth must meet the following criteria:

  • Age 14 up to age 24 (but not including age 24)
  • Be a minor child, be pregnant, a parent (including non-custodial parent) or be a part of a family that has a minor child in the home
  • Income eligible based on the family size at 200 percent of 2013 Federal Poverty Guidelines (see table at right).

Applications are available at the Van Wert County Department of Job and Family Services, 114 E. Main St. in Van Wert, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Questions should be directed to Deanna Lugabihl at 419.238.5430, extension 0136.

Coordination is provided through the Van Wert County One-Stop Employment and Training Network.  Businesses interested in participating can contact Zach Sudhoff at the Van Wert One-Stop, 114 East Main Street, Van Wert, 419.238.4910, zachsudhoff@gmail.com.
