VWHS provides Grads of Distinction info

Van Wert High School Principal Bill Clifton has announced the 2013 graduates of distinction for the school. The 10 students chosen will also be honored at the school’s graduation ceremonies, scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, in the high school gymnasium.

To be eligible for the graduate of distinction honor, students must be in the top 10 percent of their class, have a grade point average of at least 3.85 and successfully complete at least three of the school’s six Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

Graduates of distinction for 2013 include Sarah Aurand, Alexander Bair, Melissa Bono, Sydney Collins, Joseph Hurless, Caleb Markward, Daniel Thompson, Andrew Todd, Scott Turner, and Nik Wolford.

Aurand, daughter of Guy Aurand and Cheryl Howell of Van Wert, will be attending Miami University in Oxford majoring in psychology.

Bair, son of Phillip and Shelly Bair of Van Wert, will be majoring in chemical engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Bono, daughter of Jim and Denise Bono of Van Wert, will be attending the University of Findlay, majoring in pharmacy.

Collins, daughter of Jim and Marcy Collins of Van Wert, plans to major in business at Baldwin Wallace University.

Hurless, son of Mark and Cindy Hurless of Van Wert, will major in pharmaceutical business at Ohio Northern University.

Markward, the son of Kenneth and Marie Markward of Van Wert, will be attending The Ohio State University majoring in economics.

Thompson, son of Randy Thompson and Kelli Thompson, both of Van Wert, will major in architecture at Miami University.

Todd, son of Michael and Lorali Todd of Van Wert, will attend the University of Cincinnati and major in civil engineering.

Turner, son of Glenn and Christine Turner of Van Wert, will major in music education at The Ohio State University.

Wolford, son of Bryan Wolford and Shannon Stegaman of Van Wert, has been appointed to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. He is currently undecided on his major.

The 2013 VWHS graduates of distinction will each receive a medallion during commencement ceremonies next Sunday, while a group photo has been taken and will be put on display at the school.
