2013 Holiday at Home activities listed

Holiday at Home news

The Holiday at Home Committee extends an invitation to the Van Wert community to participate in activities planned as part of its 30th Fourth of July celebration.

Included in this year’s events is Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803’s annual pancake and sausage breakfast. Serving begins at 7 and runs through 11 a.m. on July 4: a perfect way to start the Independence Day holiday.

The annual Fourth of July parade will start at 11 a.m. July 4, beginning at the corner of Cherry and Main streets (beside the YWCA) and continuing down Main Street to Shannon Street, where parade units will disband at the YMCA. For more parade information, call Linda Stutz at 419.238.4192 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. or 419.238.2901 after 4:30 in the afternoon.

The Van Wert Historical Society will again have lots of activities planned on the grounds of the County Museum on North Washington Street, while the day will begin with the annual Firecracker bike ride that starts at Jubilee Park and winds through parts of Van Wert County.

After the parade, area residents can adjourn to the museum grounds to enjoy crafts, music and other activities.

Later in the afternoon, the Van Wert Firefighters Association will be having its chicken/pork chop meals at Smiley Park, while the annual fireworks sponsored by The Van Wert County Foundation and several local businesses and organizations will be held at the Van Wert County Regional Airport.

The Holiday at Home Committee has sponsored a fireworks display for 30 years, with the help of the foundation and other private donations, but can always use additional financial contributions.

Those wanting to donate to this year’s fireworks display can send a check made out to “Holiday at Home” and mail it to Sue Heppeard, Van Wert Parks Department, 515 E. Main St., Van Wert, OH 45891.
