Marlins lose to tough Wapak squad

WAPAKONETA — The Van Wert YMCA Marlins traveled to Wapakoneta on June 13 to compete against the Wapak Waves Swim Club. The Marlins lost the meet to a very tough Wapak squad and fell to 0-2 on the season.

Winning all off their individual events were Tyra McClain (4); Emma Pollock (5); DyLan Neate (3) and Sam Easley (3). Also taking home at least one first place finish were Jamie Burenga (1); Katie McVaigh (2); Erin Miller (2); Aaron Stant (2); Bethany Fast (1) and Colton Deschner (1).

In relay action, the girls’ 11-12 200-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle team (Miller, Risa Pollock; McVaigh, and Noelle Heffner) both took first place. The girls’ 13-14 200-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle (Skylar Lehman, Madison Paquette, Anna Henkaline and Bethany Fast) also both finished first. The boys’ 15 & Over 200-meter medley and freestyle relay teams both finished third (Isaac Rager, Kory Schlatter, Sam Easley, and Tyler Rex).  The girls’ 8 & Under 100-meter freestyle team (Olivia Rutkowski, Lillie Mull, Emma Miller, and Laney Hargett) finished fifth. The girls’ 9-10 200-meter freestyle team (Micah LaTurner, Libby Price, Gracie Mull, Tyra McClain) finished third.
