A Van Wert man was sent to prison on Monday during a sentencing hearing in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court.
Matt Brown, 52, was sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of possession of drugs, a felony of the first degree. Judge Charles D. Steele also gave Brown credit for 28 days already served on the charge.
Brown was also ordered to pay a mandatory fine of $10,000 plus court costs, and a 2001 Oldsmobile that was used in commission of the crime was ordered forfeited to the arresting agency.
The court also denied a defense motion to delay the sentencing for medical treatment for Brown.
