Information submitted

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Alex Bair has accepted an invitation to participate in Rose Hulman Institute of Technology’s Fast-Track Calculus program on its campus in Terre Haute, Ind. The five-week intensive course hosts outstanding accepted students who have successfully completed a year’s coursework of calculus and analytic geometry.

During these five weeks, students review differential and integral Calculus, cover all of multivariable Calculus and become familiar with the computer implementation of mathematics.  Students are required to attend class eight hours per day, five days per week for five weeks.

Successful completion of Fast-Track Calculus waives the required 15 hours of first-year Calculus; therefore, these students enter college with credit hours toward their degree. This allows students to immediately enroll in second-year mathematic courses at the onset of their first semester in college.

The program runs Sunday, July 21, through Friday, August 23, and leaves students with a one-week break prior to beginning of the academic year.

Admission to Fast-Track Calculus is only offered to select incoming freshmen who meet the requirements. The minimum requirements include completion of one year of high school calculus, Math SAT score of least 700 or at least 680 Math/700 Verbal (ACT score of at least 31 Math or 30 Math/31 Verbal), and approval by the Fast-Track Selection Committee. Admission is on highly competitive basis and heavily relies on the student’s academic record, SAT scores and a letter of recommendation from the student’s high school calculus teacher.

Starting in late August, Bair will be attending Rose Hulman Institute of Technology to pursue a major in chemical engineering and a minor in environmental chemistry. Bair is the son of Phil and Shelly Bair, and a 2013 graduate of Van Wert High School.
