Albert L. ‘Jim’ Hammond

Albert L. “Jim” Hammond went to see the Lord and his beloved son, Troy, on Thursday, July 25, 2013.

He was born August 10, 1945, the son of the late Curt and Edith (Hertel) Hammond. He married Treva (Adams) Hammond, who survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Nikki (Ben) Beougher of Convoy and Mary Jo (Dave Taylor) Hammond of Van Wert; two stepdaughters, Carmen (Jason) Heffner of Convoy and Cicely Gasvoda of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a stepson, Dominic Eddins of Van Wert; five grandchildren (who were his pride and joy), Benjamin and LaNae Beougher of Convoy, Lexi Taylor and Preston and Justin Hammond of Van Wert; and four stepgrandchildren (who he loved dearly), Nevada and Savannah Smith of Convoy and Bria Godsey and Kennedy Gasvoda.

His beloved son, Troy (who died just 20 days prior to Jim’s death); a sister, Mary Pissaro; and two brothers, Sam and Orville Hammond, also preceded him in death.

Jim was a wonderful father, grandfather and husband. He loved to help others and was a great friend to all who knew him. He was a foreman and supervisor at Teleflex Corporation for more than 30 years. He especially enjoyed doing carpentry and making things for others. He will be greatly missed.

Like his son, Troy, Jim was an organ donor in death. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert and Convoy United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Gregory Leigh officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors units of Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, also of Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial: Donor’s choice.
