Activities at the Wassenberg Art Center
By Hope Wallace
The main gallery is crammed with people who have signed on to take watercolorist Tom Lynch’s

four-day intensive painting workshop. Lynch has the process of creating flowing, well-constructed watercolor down to a science and provides concrete tools and techniques to students who can then use the knowledge in their own work.
The Wassenberg Art Center thanks Larry Wendel, Executive of the Van Wert County Foundation for his dogged support of the visual arts over the years. On August 6, Wendel officially announced his retirement, effective at the end of this year. Extensive renovations of the Van Wert Armory, which will become the art center’s new home in the near future, is the result of support of many individuals, businesses and organizations. However, the complicated implementation of this vision becoming reality is due in a large part to Larry’s efforts. We wish him the very best and will work hard to keep this strong foundation for the visual arts moving forward.
Our current exhibit with painter/printmaker Douglas Fiely, large format charcoal artist Chelsea Younkman and glassblower Matthew Paskiet is on view until August 24. Stop in and check out how vastly different forms of art can combine to create a cohesive experience. The next exhibit on the horizon is our 36th Annual Photography Exhibit. Call for entries will be made available shortly by mail for our members and available for download on our website. Stay tuned!
