Cougar golfers 3rd at Defiance tourney

Van Wert golf news

DEFIANCE — The Van Wert golf team traveled to the Defiance Invitational at Eagle Rock Golf Club and finished strongly enough to place third out of 15 schools in the 18-hole event.

Brandon Hernandez and Lucas Etzler, who both carded 83, led the Cougars, and were followed by a pair of teammates who shot 88.

Junior Alex Miller and Nick Etter, competing in varsity golf for the first year played very consistently on the day and held it together enough to contribute to a little bit of team success. Senior Justin Price continued his slump, shooting 107, and had his scored dropped.

Wauseon High School easily outpaced the field, shooting 316, while traditional power Napoleon finished second at 327.

The Cougars return to action at the Kalida Invitational on Wednesday at Country Acres.
