VW golfers struggle at Celina tourney

Van Wert golfers continued their struggles at Fox’s Den golf course near Celina, shooting a season-worst 383 and finishing 17th out of 21 teams in the Celina tournament. Minster won the tournament with a 318, followed by Lima Bath at 324 and Celina at 327.
“We have some returning varsity golfers that are not playing to their previous season averages,” said Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood. “It is a struggle so far.”
Individual scoring for the Cougars was led by Lucas Etzler’s 90, while Nick Etter carded a 93, Brandon Hernandez shot 94, Justin Price had a 106 and Jacob Covey shot 110 for the 18-hole tournament.
Fortunately for the Cougars, they head into a week filled with 9-hole dual matches that provide a chance to improve on their season results. Van Wert will next play Monday against Ottawa-Glandorf in a Western Buckeye League dual match at begins at 4:30 p.m.
