LCC edges Cougars in girls’ tennis

The Cougar girls’ tennis team lost a hard fought match to Lima Central Catholic Tuesday evening by a score of 3-2.
Ali Moreland picked up a great win at first singles 6-4, 6-4.
“I felt that Ali played her best match of the season, beating a very strong opponent at the first singles position,” said Van Wert Coach Chuck Rollins. “That was a huge win for Ali and should really give her a lot of confidence going forward.”
Claire Butler also had a big win at No. 3 singles, displaying a dominant performance to win in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.
“I think that third singles is going to be a very strong position for us with Claire holding down that spot,” Rollins said.
Individual match results
No. 1 singles – Van Wert’s Ali Moreland defeated Paige Collins 6-4, 6-4
No. 2 singles – Van Wert’s Sydney Dull lost to Liz Kidd 6-1, 6-0
No. 3 singles – Van Wert’s Claire Butler defeated Emily Janowski 6-4, 6-0
No. 1 doubles – Van Wert’s Hannah Stemen and Sydney Felger lost to Kacey Bradshaw and Allison Hullinger 6-2, 6-1
No. 2 doubles – Van Wert’s Tabatha Tennie and Kali Agler lost to Natalie Patricia-Agosto and Olivia Stanley 6-0, 6-0.
LCC is now 4-0 on the year, while Van Wert falls to 1-2 on the season.
The junior varsity doubles team of Angela Li and Liz Lassiter lost to LCC’s Samantha Stallkamp and Meredith Bruno 6-1, 6-0, while a JV match between Van Wert’s Valerie Barnhart and Jessie Agler and LCC’s Shelby Young and Elizabeth Hannah was suspended with the score 5-4.
The Lady Cougars will host Lima Shawnee on Thursday at the Van Wert County Foundation Tennis Courts.
