Van Wert independent/Lincoln Highway news

This has been a busy year on the Lincoln Highway, with several centennial tours on portions of the highway, and along the entire highway. “Roadies” from all over the world have traveled to the U.S. to experience driving the Lincoln Highway.

“Our focus will be strengthen education and increase tourism and economic development in communities along the Lincoln Highway,” said Larry Webb, one of those involved in the effort to create a new chapter. “We want to preserve the existing portions of the highway and place signage throughout the western part of Ohio.”

Webb noted that the new chapter would reach from the Ohio state line in Paulding County through the community of Forest in Hardin County. Towns along that stretch of Lincoln Highway include Convoy, Van Wert, Delphos, Gomer, Cairo, Beaverdam, New Stark, Williamstown, Ada, Dola, Patterson, Forest, Lima and Elida.

An organizational meeting has been set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, at the Van Wert County Historical Society museum, 602 N. Washington St. in Van Wert.
