VWMS boys win Delphos meet; girls 2nd

DELPHOS — This past weekend, the Van Wert Middle School cross country teams opened up their season at the Delphos Blue Jay Invitational. The Lady Cougars finished second out of 10 teams and the boys just barely squeaked past Lincolnview for the team title in the 10-team race.
Eighth grader Cassidy Meyers had the top female finish of the day, finishing fourth out of 108 runners. Thane Cowan was the top male finisher for the Cougars, with a third-place finish out of 92 runners.
Also scoring for the Lady Cougars were Sierra Shaffer (seventh), Julia Springer (16th), Nicole Clay (27th), and Erienne Cassidy (30th). Emma Rutkowski (34th) and Caton Williamson (40th) completed the top seven.
Other Cougar runners competing included Risa Pollock, Kylee Bagley, Sammy Allmandinger, Chloe Boroff, Michaella Johnson, Kathryn Wray, Hannah Kraner, Kaileigh Gentry, Courtney Sanderson, Nykee Billingham, Victoria Etzler and Allison Hauter.
Additional scorers on the boy’s side were Blake Henry (eighth), Stephen Hamblett (13th), Max Sealscott (14th), and Michael Etter (19th). Rounding out the top seven were Kyle Spray (26th) and Gage Chiles (32nd).
Also competing for the Cougar harriers were Korey Oechsle, Zac Tomlinson, Noah Carter, Anthony Borack, Brayden Cox, Noah Brubaker, David Maurer and Noah Arend.
