Dwight E. Smith

Dwight E. Smith, 91, died Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center surrounded by family and friends.

He was born January 13, 1922, in Fleming, the son of the late Frank and Lenore (Flowers) Smith. He married Rae (Mouser) Smith, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Dwight Alan (Kathryn Norden-Smith) Smith of Potomac, Md.; one daughter, Susan Rae Smith (Thomas) Shockey of New Albany; two grandchildren; a brother, Donald Irving (Mary) Smith of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; four sisters, Dorothy Smith Billman of Columbus, Ruth Smith (Denny) Trotter of Vincent; and Alfreda Smith (Verl) Roland and Adeline Smith (Jack) Anderson, both of Fleming; and 13 nieces and nephews.

A brother-in-law, John Billman, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 29, at Gearhart-Jurczyk Funeral Home in Convoy, with the Rev. Gregory Leigh officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy, with graveside military rites performed.

Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, and an hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Convoy Community Foundation, Ohio State University Extension-Van Wert County, Convoy United Methodist Church or a charity of donor’s choice.
