Cougar girls defeat ‘Riders in tennis

The Van Wert girls’ tennis team edged St. Marys in a home match at The Van Wert County Foundation Tennis Complex on Thursday.

The Lady Cougars won the three singles matches, with Ali Moreland defeating Anna Ernst 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Sydney Dull downing Abby Wilker 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles spot and No. 3 singles player Claire Butler winning over Hannah Felver, 6-0, 6-0.

The Lady Roughriders won both doubles matches, with their No. 1 doubles team of Avery Ellis and Jen Lauth defeating Hannah Stemen and Sydney Felger 6-4, 6-3, and their No. 2 doubles team of Jenna Perry and Bailey Rust edging Van Wert’s Tabatha Tennis and Kali Agler 6-4, 6-3.

With the win, Van Wert goes to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the Western Buckeye League, while the Roughriders fall to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.
