Sophie Mae Pfister

Sophie Mae Pfister, 92, of Rockford, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.

She was born in Paulding County, the daughter of the late Eli and Emma Helen (Gerber) Pfister.

She was a self-employed hairdresser, a former member of the National Hairdressers Guild, Rockford Chamber of Commerce, Shanes Crossing Historical Society, was secretary of the Republican Women of Mercer County, a past president of the Ohio Cosmetology Association Affiliate 44, and a member of Rockford United Methodist Church, where she was a substitute Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include a brother, John G. (Patricia) Pfister of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and four sisters, Marie Martin of Ossian, Ind., Kathryn Louise Heirholzer and Matilda Howell, both of Celina, and Pauline Baxter of Willshire.

Four brothers, Elmer Pfister and infants Paul, Ralph and Robert Pfister, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, at Latty Apostolic Christian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Calling hours are from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Preferred memorials: Latty Apostolic Christian Church or Rockford United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Den Herder Funeral Home in Paulding.
