Cougar tennis team defeats Elida

The Van Wert girls’ tennis team won another Western Buckeye League match, edging the Elida Lady Bulldogs 3-2 in a match played Tuesday at The Van Wert County Foundation Tennis Complex.
All three Cougar singles players won their matches. Sophomore Ali Moreland defeated senior C’era Savage at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, while Sydney Dull won at No. 2 singles over Elida’s Meredith Little, 6-3, 6-0, and No. 3 singles player Claire Butler defeated Bulldog Jacey Higbie 6-1, 6-1.
The Van Wert doubles teams lost to their rivals from Elida. The No. 1 Cougar doubles team of Hannah Stemen and Sydney Felger lost to Hailey Hurst and Ashley Fay 6-3, 6-0, while the No. 2 doubles team of Tabatha Tennie and Kali Agler were defeated by Elizabeth White and Summer Slusher, 6-0, 6-1.
With the win, Van Wert is now 4-4 overall and 4-1 in the WBL. Elida falls to 2-5 and 2-3 in league play.
