VW volleyball team beats Ottoville

Van Wert volleyball news

The Van Wert volleyball team was back in action on Tuesday at Ottoville and was able to defeat the Big Green in three games, 25-18, 25-12 and 25-20. The varsity is now 5-1 overall.

Varsity stats are as follows:

Serving – Riley Jones, 14/16 with two aces; Alexa Dunlap, 13/14 with an ace; Claire Gamble, 13/13; and McKenna Merkle, 12/13, with five aces.

Hitting – Dunlap, nine kills; Amanda Coplin, eight kills; Alexis Dowdy, five kills; and Taylor Doidge, four kills.

Defensive digs – Doidge, 11 digs; Dunlap, 10 digs; Jones, nine digs.

Setting – Jones, 13 assists; and Coplin, 10 assists.

The junior varsity lost to Ottoville in two games, 25-23 and 25-19. The JV team is now 4-2 on the season.

The Lady Cougars return to action Thursday night for their second Western Buckeye League of the year against the Shawnee Indians. Freshman, JV and varsity matches will be held, starting at 5 p.m.
