VW girls’ tennis team edges Defiance

The Van Wert Lady Cougar tennis team got victories from its singles players to edge Western Buckeye League rival Defiance 3-2 in a league match on Thursday at home.
No. 1 singles player Ali Moreland defeated Kristine Shannon of Defiance 6-4, 6-1, while No. 2 singles player Sydney Dull downed Natalie Castillo 6-0, 6-3, and Cougar Claire Butler won over Sammy Foss 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 3 singles position.
Defiance won both doubles matches, with Laura Castillo and Courtney Polce beating Van Wert’s No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Stemen and Sydney Felger 6-0, 6-3, and the Cougars’ No. 2 doubles team of Tabatha Tennie and Kali Agler losing to Karen Krontz and Danielle Vance 6-0, 6-0.
With the win, Van Wert is now 6-5 overall and 6-2 in the WBL. The Lady Bulldogs fall to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in league play.
