VW golf team loses to Defiance
Van Wert golf news
DEFIANCE — Van Wert varsity golf team traveled to Eagle Rock Golf Course to play Western Buckeye League opponent Defiance and came out on the short end of the match, 173-185.
The Cougars played well as a team through six holes, but then fell apart at the seams in the final three holes.
Adam Jurczyk was the lone Van Wert golfer to play the final three holes well, as he picked up two strokes on his opponent. Unfortunately, the other five Cougars gave away a total of 18 strokes to Defiance.
“There really aren’t words to describe such a monumental collapse,” said Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood. “We have to toughen up and learn to finish; I know our guys are capable of better.”
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 3-5 in the WBL and 3-6 overall, while Defiance improves to 3-5 and 3-6 overall.
Van Wert will finish the regular season Monday against Wapakoneta after an 18-hole invitational at Mercer County Elks Golf Course this Saturday.
