Education, technology and the new state teacher evaluation system were primary topics for the Lincolnview Local Board of Education during its September meeting Wednesday evening.
Superintendent Jeff Snyder noted in his report to the board that the district’s new Technology Committee will be conducting meetings soon to discuss several issues, including the district’s new 1:1 computer program, as well as improving the Lincolnview website and the implementation of online testing in 2015.

Snyder added that committee members would be visiting other school districts to glean ideas on what other schools are doing to implement technology in the classroom.
The superintendent said the district also needs to stay current on what is happening in education. “The traditional sense of school is outdated,” Snyder said. “We need to think outside the box to prepare our students for college.”
The Lincolnview superintendent also noted that the district would be a pilot school for the new teacher evaluation system in the spring of 2014 and would fully implement the new system by the start of the 2014-2015 school year. The new evaluation system includes both traditional teacher evaluation methods, as well as a student improvement component.
Treasurer Troy Bowersock noted his concern that state Medicaid reimbursements from a year ago have still not been paid, adding that approximately $46,000 is owed the district for Medicaid-related services.
High School Principal Kelly Dye noted that the high school enrollment this year totals 403 students, while also noting that the school’s new Progress Book online system is being used and teachers are putting lesson plans online.
Dye also talked about the newly-created building leadership team that is comprised of nine staff members from the high school and junior high school areas.
Elementary Principal Nita McKinney talked about the state’s third grade guarantee evaluation, noting that a state pre-assessment would be administered to third-graders on October 8 to see how Lincolnview’s third-graders are doing.
Also on Wednesday, the board:
- Accepted the resignation of Kent McClure as assistant girls’ basketball coach.
- Approved advancement to the master’s degree step on the teacher pay scale to Robbie Breese.
- Accepted the following donations from the Lincolnview Athletic Boosters: $1,000 for new volleyball uniforms and $5,132 for the new track bleacher/press box project.
- Approved the list of open enrollment students for the 2013-2014 school year.
- Authorized the hiring of athletic event workers on an “as needed” basis for the current school year.
