SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — What proved to be a tough Western Buckeye League season for the Van Wert golf team ended Friday with an eighth-place finish in the WBL tournament at Shawnee Country Club. Bath, who matched the 2012 Van Wert’s 9-0 undefeated record, won the tournament, with Celina second and Kenton third.

The Cougars carded a 371 for 18 holes on Friday, which, when combined with its 3-6 regular season record, resulted in a ninth-place finish overall out of 10 WBL teams. Individual Van Wert tournament scoring was as follows: Brandon Hernandez, 82; Adam Jurczyk, 89; Alex Miller, 98; Justin Price, 102; and Nick Etter, 106.

Van Wert golfers return to Willow Bend Country Club this coming Tuesday for its final home match, a tri-match with Lima Central Catholic and Elida, before heading to the Kalida sectional on Thursday.
