The United Way of Van Wert County reminds area residents of the upcoming 15th anniversary Day of Caring Blood Drive for the American Red Cross, which takes place this Friday, September 27, from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Trinity Friends Church, 605 N. Franklin St. in Van Wert.

Since the inception of the Day of Caring Blood Drive, 4,815 blood units (572 gallons) have been donated.

United Way logo 9-2013The United Way and American Red Cross sincerely thank past donors for their generous support over the last 15 years and again ask for their assistance in this year’s blood drive. Currently, blood supplies are at a critical level and every pint donated will go to save up to three lives.  This year’s blood drive goal is 250 units.

In addition to a free meal and a Day of Caring t-shirt, all donors will be entered into a drawing to win one of four $50-dollar gas cards, compliments of Brookside Convenience Store, local Pak-A-Sak locations and Shell Party Mart. Give blood and win a chance for free gas!

Anyone 17 years of age who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health is encouraged to donate. Appointments can be made by calling 800.RED.CROSS or by visiting www.redcrossblood.org.
