Knights are in the groove

By Tanner Skelton

Students are back in the swing of things and ready to dig in after a day off for teacher and staff in-service.  On the students’ first day back, school pictures were taken.  Homecoming preliminary elections took place Sept. 19 and 20.  These elections are designed to select homecoming candidates. Homecoming final elections took place Tuesday, Sept. 24; winners will be announced before the football game Oct. 11.

Crestview FFA members recently participated in Cows and Plows, a program designed to teach elementary students about agriculture and its history.  “It is important to educate kids about farm life if they have not grown up on one,” said senior Scott Miller.  “I enjoy lending a hand to help out with this great experience.”  The program has evolved over the years to include various farmers from around the county to educate students.

Tournament action is around the corner for many sports.  The golf team, consisting of Connor Lautzenheiser, Jake Mengerink, Cain Lautzenheiser, Jon Germann, and Ronnie Schumm, has its sectional tournament today in Paulding.

Sophomore Connor Lautzenheiser said, “We have worked on chipping and putting a lot in practice to help us lower our scores. We have also continued to hit off the range and work on our swing.”

The golf team has had a great deal of success, given the lack of many returning players.  This factor has allowed underclassmen to step up and prove they have what it takes to advance the Crestview golf program.

Student Council has organized a car wash at AutoZone in Van Wert from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.  The money raised from this event will go to aid the family of a Convoy community member.  Student council members will work the wash and are happy they can help make a difference.

“This will get us involved with our tight-knit community,” said Student Council Vice-President Austin Cunningham.  “It also teaches students the value of volunteering for such events.”
