Joseph G. Newland

Joseph G. Newland, 83, of Rockford, died at 7:47 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born January 2, 1930, in Lima, the son of the late Raymond G. and Olive Fay (Tracy) Newland. On September 2, 1948, he married Mary L. (Wiedeman) Newland, who survives in Rockford.

Other survivors include two children, Robert Newland of Rockford and Jenny Newland of Van Wert; two sisters, Phyllis Patrick of Edgerton and Jeanette Road of Columbus; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Archie and Jim Newland; a half-brother, Charles McDonald; and a half-sister, Eileen Cox, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 28, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. Friday, September 27, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial: Donor’s choice.
