Sheriff seeks aid in solving vehicle thefts

VW County Sheriff’s Office news

Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas Riggenbach is asking for assistance in solving several thefts that have occurred in the eastern portion of the county during nighttime hours between September 18 and September 25. The thefts are mostly from vehicle parked on residential properties.

Information from their investigation, has led deputies to believe those involved may be using four-wheeler all-terrain vehicles to aid them in committing the crimes.

Sheriff Riggenbach asked county residents to make sure they lock any vehicles kept outside and remove money and other valuables from the vehicles. The sheriff also recommends that county residents secure garages and outbuildings, all of which can act as a deterrent to the thefts being committed.

The sheriff is also asking that residents report any suspicious activity as soon as possible to his office at 419.238.3866, noting that additional information about the suspicious activity, such as a description of the vehicle or clothing of suspects, as well as direction of travel, number of vehicles or suspects, is very helpful.
