Cougar volleyball team beats Bath

LIMA — The Van Wert Lady Cougar volleyball team was back in action on Thursday as they traveled to Lima Bath to take on the Lady Wildcats in a Western Buckeye League match-up. The Cougars were again victorious, defeating Bath straight games by scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-15.

Van Wert is now 12-2 on the season and 4-1 in the WBL.

Stats leaders for the Cougars are as follows:

Serving – Claire Gamble, 18/18; McKenna Merkle, 13/13; Amanda Coplin, 13/14, with one ace.

Hitting – Alexis Dowdy, six kills; Taylor Doidge, Coplin, Alexa Dunlap and McKenzie Collins, two kills each.

Defensive digs – Dunlap, 10 digs; Cheyenne Handy, seven digs.

Setting – Riley Jones and Coplin, seven assists each.

The Van Wert junior varsity team also won against Bath in straight games: 25-14 and 25-13. The JV team is now 9-5 on the year.

The Cougar volleyball teams will return to action at home on Saturday as they host the Van Wert Invitational Tournament.
