Cougars end season at sectionals

KALIDA — The Van Wert Cougar golf team ended a frustrating season Thursday at the Division II sectional tournament at Country Acres golf course in Kalida.

Cougar golfer Brandon Hernandez led the way for Van Wert with an 86, but his score wasn’t low enough to qualify for district tournament. In addition, Van Wert’s score of 360 put the Cougars in eighth place out of 12 teams competing. Teams that qualified for districts include Napoleon (320), Liberty Benton (329) and Lima Bath (331). Four other individual golfers also qualified with scores ranging from 73 to 78.

Van Wert ended the season with a 5-7 record, with the Cougars’ best team tournament the Defiance Invitational early in the season, where they finished in third place.
