Accident victim listed in stable condition

RIDGE TOWNSHIP — A tow truck driver  seriously injured Friday night when he was struck by a passing vehicle while fixing a flat tire along U.S. 30 in Ridge Township has had his condition upgraded.

Mark A. Campbell, 30, of Fort Wayne, Ind., is now listed in stable condition at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

osplogoAccording to troopers from the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Campbell was fixing a flat tire on a 1997 International 920 commercial tow truck owned by Blue Eagle Towing of Fort Wayne on the shoulder of the highway beside the westbound lanes of U.S. 30 at about 9:40 p.m. Friday when the accident occurred.

A second westbound vehicle, a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven in the right-hand lane of U.S. 30 by James H. Yoder, 18, of Dalton, struck Campbell, who was kneeling beside the tow truck, as the pickup passed the disabled vehicle.

Campbell sustained serious injuries as a result of the traffic crash and was transported from the scene by Life Flight to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. Neither Yoder nor three passengers in his vehicle were injured in the traffic crash.

The crash is currently under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. Assisting at the scene were the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office and Middle Point Fire & EMS.
