Terrence L. Johnson, M.D.
Terrence L. Johnson, M.D., 65, of Van Wert, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.

He was born September 28, 1948, in New Castle, Ind., the son of the late Rex E. and June M. (Shaw) Johnson. He married Connie L. (Hirschy) Beahrs Johnson, who survives in Van Wert.
Dr. Johnson was a longtime medical practitioner at Van Wert Family Physicians. He began his residency in Fort Wayne, Ind., and worked in the emergency room at Van Wert County Hospital the last year of his residency. In 1975, he began practicing family medicine in Van Wert until his recent retirement on September 27, 2013.
He was a member of Mendon United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Mendon Union High School, Manchester College and the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, where he earned many honors. He was a board member of the former Peoples Bank & Trust Company in Van Wert, a current member of the Van Wert County Farm Bureau, Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert, Willow Bend Country Club, the Van Wert Medical Society, Ohio State Medical Association, American Association of Family Practice, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society. Dr. Johnson was instrumental in developing the medical procurement program at Van Wert County Hospital.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Charles (Dina) Beahrs Jr. of Port Charlotte, Fla., Camela (Andrew) Metzinger of McMurray, Pa., Catina (Shawn) Lamb of Springboro, and Amy (Leonardo) Plaza of Arlington, Va.; six siblings, Jeffrey (Patty) Johnson of Mendon, Steven (Brenda) Johnson of Ohio City, Janelle (John) Sites of Rockford, Lyndel (William) Smith of Ohio City, Dr. Daclynn (Lori) Johnson of Rupert, Idaho, and Kimberly (Edward) Smith of Mendon; eight grandchildren, Jack and Hannah Metzinger, Cade and Ava Lamb, Aurora and Gustavo Plaza, Mario (Michelle) Farmakis and John Farmakis; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Farmakis; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Joan Hirschy of Charlotte, N.C.; and his former spouse, Linda D. Johnson of Celina.
Raymond A. and Aloha Marie Hirschy also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery in rural Mercer County.
Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Monday, October 14, at the funeral home.
