Quarter Auction is a success
By Rex Dolby

The Wassenberg Camera Club had a double tie vote for the best old house print before Karl Gribler’s shot of the house locally know as “The Castle,” located on South Washington Street across from the Presbyterian Church, was selected as the winning print. Rex Dolby’s picture of an old house near Peru, Ind. was voted the best slide.
It has been quite a while since members have been eager to hear a treasurer’s report, but this time members could hardly wait to hear Treasurer Karl Gribler’s account concerning the Quarter Auction held last Tuesday. Karl expressed his thanks to all the people who came to bid at the auction, to Camera Club members for their assistance, to Vickie Schulte and her helpers for conducting the auction, to the many vendors who had table displays, to the church for setting up tables and providing refreshments, and to the many businesses and organizations that donated gifts and certificates for the event. He reported that a third of the proceeds went to expenses, which left about two-thirds profit. This is one of the most successful fundraisers ever run by the club.
In addition it was learned that Karl and his wife Nancy have been collecting items for months and storing them in their

house. Nancy bought baskets at yard sales and packed them with prizes then wrapped them for the event. She expressed pleasure in getting her house back to normal again. For his outstanding leadership in the project, Karl was awarded a well-deserved Lifetime Membership in the Wassenberg Camera Club.
Larry Dickerhoof was approved to purchase the club’s old laptop computer and to have one of the old enlargers.
President Will Hawkins announced research would begin to find the best suited studio lighting for the club’s use in the new facility. There are still items to pack before the move, and potentially there will be photography classes each month next year based on an educational series by Joel Sartore. Sartore is a photographer for National Geographic magazine and spoke in Van Wert earlier this year. Also the club is looking into a “then and now” architectural photography project for next year based in the Van Wert Area.
The club’s next regular meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. Location will be announced. Please watch the Wassenberg Camera Club’s column and the newspaper as the meeting date draws near. “Machinery/Tools” will be the competition theme in prints and slides that evening. This will be the club’s only meeting in November due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
