Man killed when truck flips over on him

MERCER — An unidentified out-of-state driver was killed after the box truck he was driving flipped over on him along U.S. 33, near the intersection with U.S. 127.

According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, the man, 52, was westbound on U.S. 33 in a 2007 GMC rental box truck when the truck veered off the north side of the roadway. The driver, who has not yet been identified, then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to flip over. The man was thrown from the truck and was pinned underneath it. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Coroner Dr. Timothy Heinrichs.

A young male passenger, who has also not been identified at this time, was taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys by the Celina EMS squad, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Mendon-Union Fire Department and Mercer County Emergency Response volunteers.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
