ROCKFORD — A Rockford woman faces multiple charges as a result of a brief chase through that village Monday afternoon.

Amy Hart, 25, is charged with a number of traffic offenses, as well as possession of heroin, a felony of the fifth degree, in connection with the incident.

According to Rockford Police Chief Paul P. May III, Sgt. Bryan Stetler saw Hart driving in the village and was aware that her driver’s license was suspended. However, when the officer tried to pull her over, the woman began running stop signs and driving at twice the posted speed. That lasted for eight blocks, until she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a fence on Front Street.

Hart then left the scene on foot, but was eventually apprehended as she returned to her residence in Meyer’s Trailer Court in Rockford.

The woman is currently being held in the Mercer County Jail on $150,000 cash bond.
