VW water plant power problems fixed

Van Wert independent

Although it was touch and go Wednesday morning, the Van Wert Water Treatment Plant is now pumping water again.

Mayor Don Farmer said that, thanks to assistance from AEP, the plant’s electrical power was restored at approximately 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“We would like to really thank AEP for their assistance,” the mayor said. “They responded with multiple trucks to help us with our problem.”

Power problems at the plant began about 3 Wednesday morning when an electrical short developed. About three hours later, the power went out totally when a massive short developed.

At that time, the plant could not pump water to the city’s water towers, which, if not repaired, would have resulted in a loss of water service to city residents and businesses.

Quick action was needed, the mayor said, and, thanks to AEP, that is what happened.

“We felt we had until approximately noon to fix this problem,” Mayor Farmer said, noting that, without AEP help, that deadline would not have been met.
