Foundation buys dilapidated buildings

There was good news Tuesday for supporters of Wassenberg Art Center. According to Executive Secretary Larry Wendel, The Van Wert County Foundation has purchased the vacant buildings immediately south of the former Van Wert armory building.

Wendel also announced The Foundation’s plans to demolish the buildings, beginning in late November, with the first phase being removal of all contaminated materials, followed by razing of the structures.

The area will then be developed by expanding parking areas next to the new home of the Wassenberg Art Center and developing a green space on the corner of Crawford and Washington streets. The work should be completed sometime next spring.
