Catherine Marguerite (Fleming) Akerman
Catherine Marguerite “Marge” (Fleming) Akerman, 97, a resident of The Laurels of Shane Hill and formerly of Ohio City, died at noon Thursday, November 7, 2013, at The Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.
She was born June 21, 1916, in Jackson Township, Allen County, the daughter of the late Frank and Cathern (Ream) Fleming. On January 15, 1937, she married David W. Akerman, who preceded her in death in May 1967.
Survivors include a daughter, Lovest Sue May of Celina; three sons, David (Diane) Akerman and Phillip (Melody) Akerman, both of Van Wert, and Irvin Michael “Mike” (Shelly) Akerman of Gray, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Akerman of Houston, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Karen Christian; one son, Rev. H. Eldon “Cliff” Akerman; a son-in-law, Joe May; and several brothers and sisters, also preceded her in death.
Calling hours are from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, November 10, with a memorial service conducted by Pastor Denise Brown, all at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert.
Preferred memorials: St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ohio City or the Ohio City Fire Department.
