Artists’ Exhibit about to open
By Hope Wallace

Opening day is looming ever closer. There are some details out there. Now that the day is finally so close it’s easy to wish for more time, but it is time and we are going to swing open those 350-pound steel doors on Sunday. Actually, this project will never be complete and that is a good thing. If we stopped we’d stagnate and how much fun would that be? Ideas inspire even more ideas and we have plenty to keep us busy for, well, probably our own personal forever. We will officially open to the public on Sunday, Nov. 17, 1-5 p.m. with two exhibits, and self-guided tours. The Van Wert County Hospital and the Van Wert County Foundation generously present the 24th Annual Wassenberg Artists Exhibit and Sale, will feature over 300 items from regional and national artists and is a great opportunity to shop for the holidays while supporting local artists. Prices for original art are reasonable and you will be presenting your loved ones with original, quality items.

Faces of Little Bighorn, the artwork of former Van Wert resident, the late David Humphreys Miller will open as a more permanent exhibit as well. This collection has been donated by Robert Brent Stevens and will also change as new media and digital tools are implemented. We are really excited to learn that Marian Whitemouse will be attending our opening, traveling all the way from South Dakota to speak about her great grandfather, Lakota Chief Iron Hail, aka Dewey Beard. Marian’s mother feared her grandfather’s story would be lost and the Wassenberg Art Center is now in the position to see that this important American story will not fade.
While you are here, tour our beautiful and very functional new facility. Before and after pictures will be posted in each room detailing the renovation processes.
If you have any questions regarding exhibits, classes or programs or would like to get involved please call the Wassenberg Art Center at 419.238.6837, email info@wassenbergartcenter.org or you may register online at wassenbergartcenter.org.
