In keeping with a 19-year tradition, the lighting of the tree in the front of the hospital marks the beginning of the holiday season. The Tree of Lights is both a remembrance service and a TWIG III fundraiser in support of hospital programs.  For a contribution, family members placed star ornaments on the tree. Twenty-eight stars were placed on the tree honoring or in memory of loved ones.

The 19th annual event raised $2,400.

“Since 1994, the Van Wert Community has been tremendously supportive of the Tree of Light project,”  Dunn said. “With the generosity of Van Wert and surrounding communities, we have been able to give over $72,000 to the hospital for the purchase of the most up-to-date medical equipment available from this project alone. We are very grateful for that support”.

The evening started with an invocation from Pastor Steve Savage of Trinity Friends Church.  Following the check presentation, Dunn read the names on the stars. As the event concluded, attendees enjoyed a reception in the hospital cafeteria.
