Betty L. Johnson

Betty L. Johnson, 91, died at 4:12 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born August 21, 1922, in Martins Ferry, the daughter of the late Frank P. and Margaret (Davies) Callahan. On July 4, 1942, she married M. Wayne Johnson, who preceded her in death on July 14, 1991.

Survivors include six children, Connie (Dwight) Rhoades and Charles Johnson, both of Van Wert, Cheryl Slotter of Bluffton, John (Carla) Johnson of Rockford, Peg (Craig) Miller of Shipshewana, Ind., and Bradley (Robyn) Johnson of Celina; a brother, Frank (Velma) Callahan Jr. of Jackson Center, Pa.; one sister, Phyllis (Fred) Schmidt of Valparaiso, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Lester Callahan and Robert Callahan, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 30, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with the Rev. Mark Rutledge officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, December 29, and an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: New Horizons Community Church in Rockford.
