Robert S. Wood

Robert S. Wood, 58, of Van Wert, passed away at 7:29 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was born February 18, 1955, in Ottawa, the son of Dorna (Watkins) Wood, who survives in Fort Wayne, Ind., and the late Doyle Wood. On October 11, 1986, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., he married Jill (LaBonne) Wood, who survives in Van Wert.

Bob is also survived by his children, Aaron Wood of Orlando, Fla., Megan (Alex) Hammons and Luke (Anne Altstaetter) Wood, both of Van Wert, and USMC Pfc. Zachary Wood, stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C.; and was a proud “papa” to beloved grandchildren Noah Wood and Ryan Hammons.

He is also survived by three sisters, Joni (Doug) Lehman of Fort Wayne, Ind., Kim (David) Ohlweiler of Cincinnati and Karen (Jack) Stueve of Minster; a brother, Mark (Cheryl) Wood of Germantown, Wis.; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Bob was the sales manager at StateWide Ford in Van Wert. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert, a member of the band, ToolBachs and a connoisseur of music – especially his alto sax.

There will be no funeral services.

Calling hours are from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, January 11, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert.
