Roberto Gonzales Alvarez

Roberto “Bob” Gonzales Alvarez, 51, of Sherwood, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at his residence.

He was born July 7, 1962, in Nassawadox, Va., the son of Alicia (Gonzales) Alvarez, who survives in Van Wert, and the late Saul Alvarez. On January 19, 1985, he married Sue (Waggoner) Alvarez, his loving spouse of 28 years, who survives in Sherwood.

Other survivors include three sons, Nicholas (Allyssa) Alvarez of Hicksville, Jordan Alvarez of Chicago, Ill., and Logan Alvarez of Sherwood; a granddaughter, Meredith Alvarez; and three brothers, Armondo (Diane) Alvarez of Van Wert, Saul (Lori) Alvarez Jr. of Lugoff, S.C., and Daniel Alvarez of Van Wert.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 13, at the Sherwood United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kevin Doseck officiating. Cremation will follow the services.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, January 12, at Schaffer Funeral Home Inc. in Defiance.

Preferred memorials: To the family, to be put in trust for the grandchildren’s education.
